We have had some reports of inconsistencies with being able to spend the card on Uber. While we have had customers successfully using the card on Uber, we have also had reports that the transactions have been declined by other users.
We have had some reports that using the card directly by entering the card details on your Uber account has more success as opposed to using the card through your mobile wallet such as Google/Apple Wallet. Here are the steps to adding a card manually to your Uber account.
In these cases, we recommend that customers use the card to load funds to their Uber Cash/Money account which can then be used. These are the steps to load your Uber Cash.
If you're paying entirely with Uber Cash, Uber may require your Uber Cash balance to be slightly higher than the estimated fare before allowing you to request the trip. This is because:
The final fare can be higher than the estimate due to traffic, route changes, tolls, or waiting time.
Uber may require a small buffer to ensure there are sufficient funds to cover any increase.
In some regions, Uber doesn't allow a trip to start if your Uber Cash balance only exactly matches the estimated fare.
For example:
Estimated fare: $12.50
Uber may require $13–$15 (or more, depending on the market) in Uber Cash before you can use it as the sole payment method.
In our experience, this amount can be up to 25% of the trip fare.
Unfortunately, Uber Cash is primarily available in the US only, while Uber Money is only available in a limited number of countries, to see which countries Uber Money is available, please see Uber's article here.
Additionally, we remind customers that we have Uber gift cards available, which will be the cheapest (0.8% fee), and often most reliable, method of loading your Uber account.
